An update on the Crysis video

Yesterday I got a miraculous amount of work done. I was able to add 4 shots to the sequence. That may not seem like much, but it is if you also take into account that in the past few weeks before Saturday I had only gotten 5 shots done. So now I have a total of 9 shots. The video so far is just over a minute, and I think the whole thing will end up being something like 1 minute and 20 seconds.

Here's a screen shot of one of the new shots:

What is he so shocked about? Well, you'll have to wait till the clip is finished to see!

The Crysis clip

I made some OK progress on the Crysis clip today. Check out this screen shot:

In my opinion the Depth Of Field, plus the slightly foggy Time Of Day make this a pretty cool shot.

I am making music for this somewhat short clip, and I also imported my first ever custom geometry into the CryEngine 2 for it. So far I have completed 32 seconds.

This may be my last day to work on stuff until I get back from a trip. The trip is 4 days, so I won't be gone for long, just figured I'd throw that in there.

The new Crysis map

I stumbled upon this pretty neat shot today while I was making the map for the cinematic clip that I am doing for the Mod leader at Crymod.

I hope you like it..... I also hope this clip won't take me forever.

That's all for this post.

A more newsy post than the one below.

An ongoing development has pushed aside my current project. I think I now have more projects on hold at one time than I ever have before. My new obligation is to make cinematics for a Crysis total conversion mod over at Crymod forums. This takes priority over my film for the RCT3 machinima contest (which wasn't gonna make it in time anyway), because I made the commitment back when I released 37 Seconds of Cinematic Win. The day I released it, the leader of this new Crysis mod asked if I would do the cinematics for their mod, and I said "Yes."

So now I will be doing some Crysis movie making, on top of my new film, which is on top of something I haven't told anyone about yet, which is on top of Mechanics Vs. Aliens episode 6. Phew.

Oh, and in some unofficial but related news, today I released 2 short clips from my RCT3 machinima, which I quickly took back down. I was showing them, upon request, to the fore mentioned leader of the mod for which I will be making the Crysis cinematics. A couple lucky people saw them (Ultima9345 and LUCASgProductions, at least) so if you want any info about these shots that I actually didn't want anyone to see, you'd have to get it from them. Because it's unofficial, and I don't post unofficial news. Wait. That's just what I've been doing. Crap.

You know, my thoughts as usual

Every now and then I have to remind myself why I am doing all of this. If I don't keep remembering that I am doing it for myself, not just for a contest, or the gratification of my Internet audience in general, then I can end up going kinda crazy. You see, if all that mattered was making it in time for a contest deadline, or satisfying every single person who watched my videos, then a heck of a lot of the stuff I have made would be worthless. Not every video pleases everyone and not every video makes it on time for whatever deadline I've made up in my head. In the long run, people aren't going to care if the video is a few weeks or months late.

The point is: my hobby is making videos, not making deadlines.

I could do other things besides videos if all that I cared about were the deadlines. The main value of what I'm doing is in the work itself, not in if the work is delivered in a timely fashion. So, just figured I needed to say something like that, because I was starting to feel bad about the pace of my work.

This post brings up a rather amusing fact. This blog is starting to become something of a journal for me. It's not just WIP updates all the time, I also post my thoughts and rants (like now, hehehe). I don't know about you, but I think it's neat in a certain kind of way. It seems to make the blog more personal.

Anyway, rant over.
